Student EasyCard by deposit converted to normal EasyCard on October 31, 2015
In Taipei City, New Taipei City and Keelung City, the “student EasyCard by deposit” was no longer sold after September 25, 2014. This measure had been promoted and implemented in several stages. Its purpose was to prevent this type of cards being used by other people than card holders, and to encourage students to travel by public transportation. This type of cards was automatically converted to normal EasyCard, and students would not be able to have the discounted bus fare.
Governments of these three cities worked together to control from the source of student EasyCard, in order to ensure students receive the commuting subsidies, and prevent student EasyCard being used by people other than card holders. The “student EasyCard by deposit”, which could not be named, and the unnamed “chip student EasyCard” were converted to normal cards. Holders of the former type of cards could apply for return of card and refund of deposit. Holders of the unnamed “chip student EasyCard” should immediately complete the procedure to have name printed on the card, or would not be able to have discounted fare.
The Taipei Public Transportation Office would like to remind that as soldiers and policemen share the same discounted fare with students, they also use student EasyCard. Thus, the purchase, name registration, preferential contents and procedure are also the same. Soldiers and policemen should also complete the name registration procedure as soon as possible.
