New taxi fare policy implemented along with a new fare meter for taxies in Taipei City and New Taipei City
About when to implement new taxi fare policy in Taipei City and New Taipei City, the Taipei City Government and New Taipei City Government had discussed and decided not to implement the new taxi fare policy until the introduction of the new fare meter. This decision was made after considering that the Ministry of Transportation and Communications had been developing a new multi-functional fare meter. Taxi drivers thus needed not to install the fare meter for the second time, and could avoid the dispute by using fare table.
Commented by the Taipei Public Transportation Office commented, the “Taipei Taxi Consultation and Review Committee” had approved the new taxi fare policy, but this required installation of another fare meter. After discussed with taxi drivers’ association, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and Ministry of Economic Affairs, and negotiated with the New Taipei City Government and Keelung City Government, we agreed not to implement the new taxi fare policy until the introduction of the new fare meter. Depending on the progress of new fare meter development and its final inspection, the date to implement the new taxi fare policy will be announced in the future.
