Taipei City Traffic Engineering Office Will Consider Giving Priority to Setting up Marked Sidewalks in Alleys under 6 m in Width
As some downtown alleys cannot be installed with real sidewalks any time soon due to site conditions, marked sidewalks can be used for the transitional period. Based on the idea of pedestrian-oriented transportation, Taipei City Traffic Engineering Office has been zealously setting up marked sidewalks at road sections frequently used by pedestrians and schoolchildren, to ensure the safe passage for pedestrians. Up to now, marked sidewalks have been installed at 171 locations, adding up to a length of 16 km.
The Office will continue to communicate with the local public and promote its policy, which will consider giving priority to the narrow alleys under 6 m in width for setting up marked sidewalks in the hope that in these alleys pedestrians can be separated from vehicles to create a safe traffic environment for pedestrians.
