Campaign of Good Manners on Bus – Commendation for 150 excellent bus drivers
The commendation ceremony for excellent drivers awarded in 2013 Campaign of Good Manners on Bus was held today (18 February) at the Taipei National University of the Arts. Taipei City buses serve about 1610000 people in average every day, and every bus driver serves at least 300 passengers every day in average. The commendation ceremony provided an opportunity for passengers to thank drivers, and for drivers to be proud of their job. At the ceremony, 150 excellent drivers were awarded after passengers handed in acknowledgement cards. In addition to the commendation ceremony, food fair was also held at the same venue for drivers and their families which was a good way for drivers to relax from their work. Those excellent drivers also shared with everyone the stories they had experienced on bus. For example, a driver protected passengers by bravely taking away the gun from a robber. Another story told was about returning medicine left on bus to its owner who was an old lady living alone. Moreover, a driver gave a smile card to each passenger that cheered up everyone on her bus, and a female driver was known by passengers for her hard working attitude for her family. The ceremony went on with warmth and cheers.
According to the Office, those excellent drivers and 14 Taipei City Bus companies received acknowledgement certificates from Mr. Shengwei Wang, Director of the Department of Transportation, Taipei City Government at the ceremony. Mr. Wang then gave a short speech to thank the awarded 150 drivers, and all bus companies and drivers for their hard work to provide the highest quality transportation service. He further addressed that Taipei City bus drivers who greet passengers and take the initiative to provide service have become the model for other public transportation operators. He appreciated those drivers’ contribution so that Taipei City bus service could have reached international standard, and their passengers would have felt happy and lucky.
