The time-specific pedestrian scramble for Xinyi District’s Sec. 5, Zhongxiao E. Rd. and Songshan Rd. intersection signal will be canceled starting on September 18, 2018

The pedestrian scramble measure that was implemented as a trial at the intersection signal of Xinyi District’s Sec. 5, Zhongxiao E. Rd. and Songshan Rd. on August 1, 2018 will be canceled starting on September 18, 2018 because the extended red light during the test period causes traffic congestion and makes pedestrians and drivers impatient.
Considering the neighboring market and MRT station near the intersection of Sec. 5, Zhongxiao E. Rd. and Songshan Rd., and to improve pedestrian safety at the intersection, this Government’s Taipei City Traffic Engineering Office implemented a trial pedestrian scramble at the intersection during a test period (weekdays 17:00-19:00). Observation of traffic during the test period showed that the pedestrian scramble’s long red light caused traffic congestion and impatience in pedestrians and drivers. Related units were invited to the site for inspection on September 11, 2018. The conclusion was to stop the pedestrian scramble trial starting on September 18, 2018. The signal was changed to a north-south direction early pedestrian scramble. That way, pedestrians can be separated from right-turning traffic and traffic safety and smoothness can be maintained.
In response to the cancellation of the pedestrian scramble at the intersection, the   Traffic Engineering Office will remove the signal board. We call on pedestrians and drivers passing through this intersection to follow the signals lights. When pedestrians pass through the intersection, please move rapidly in groups to maintain safety.
