YouBike: English Name Clarification

The Department of Transportation, Taipei City Government, points out that Taipei City’s public bicycle is officially named “YouBike”. The agency is aware that some organizations often use “U-Bike” or other similar names for Taipei City’s public bicycle. To avoid inconsistencies among organizations, DOT hereby officially announces that the correct English names for the City’s public bicycle is "YouBike".
DOT notes that both “YouBike” and “Ubike” have been registered under Class 39 of Taiwan Trademark, and are able to operate a bicycle rental business. However, as “Ubike” has already been registered by another company under Trademark Class 12 (bicycle manufacturing), the Department will adopt “YouBike” as its official English name to avoid unnecessary confusion,
The Department would like to thank the public for supporting and using YouBike. In order to have a consistent name for YouBike, the Department hereby announces the correct Chinese and English names, and hopes that the public will continue to support YouBike and together create a green environment with low-carbon emission.
