Taipei Public Transportation Office intends to reinforce transfer bus service and clamp down taxi driver’s illegal charge of extra fare
In response to news reported about very few transfer buses bound for Taipei Maokong Gondola, the Taipei Public Transportation Office made the following comment. The Office had arranged the MRT Company to offer more free bus transfer service, and bus companies to shorten bus service intervals when service of the Taipei Maokong Gondola was suspended due to bad weather.
For safety concern, service of the Taipei Maokong Gondola is not available when it’s thundering and lightning or storming. The MRT has set up the procedure to launch temporary free bus transfer service so as to serve passengers who cannot travel by the Maokong Gondola. The Office had also informed the MRT Company to report immediately when the MRT stations are crowded during holidays that passengers are too many to serve. Upon this case, the Office had requested bus companies to offer more bus service with shorter intervals.
Stressed by the Taipei Public Transportation Office, it’s illegal if taxi drivers charge higher or extra fare that taxi drivers should only charge fare in accordance to the standard stipulated by regulations. Passengers were encouraged to report such cases to the Office with relevant information such as time, date and vehicle registration number. Once the illegal act was confirmed, taxi drivers would be fined NT$9,000 in accordance to the Highway Act. The Office urged taxi drivers not to do against the law, and to charge fare according to the stipulated standard. Staff from the Office will conduct inspections regarding this issue to make sure that passenger’s interests and rights are well protected.
