In line with the revision of the central regulations, from July 1, 2012, the City's expressways/elevated roads are open to large heavy-duty motorcycles
Complying with the amended Article 92 of the “Act Governing the Punishment of Violation of Road Traffic Regulations" announced by the Executive Yuan and implemented from July 1, 2012, the driving regulations and penalties applicable to large heavy-duty motorcycles, unless otherwise specified, shall follow those applicable regulations for small vehicles. Hence, as of July 1, 2012, Taipei City opened 10 expressways/elevated roads: Tiding Blvd., Huandong Blvd., Shuiyuan Expressway, Huanhe N-S Expressway, Xinyi Expressway, Zhoumei Expressway, Jianguo Elevated Road, Civic Blvd Expressway, Keelung Elevated Road and Xinsheng North Elevated Road, for use by large heavy-duty motorcycles; road signs and markings have been appropriately adjusted.
The Department of Transportation especially calls upon users of large heavy-duty motorcycles when driving on the City's expressways/elevated roads, to comply with safety rules including: speed limits (slow down at corners), headlights switched on at all times, wearing a full-face or open-face helmet, no riding on road shoulders, no lane splitting or same lane overtaking, no arbitrary and sudden lane changes and keeping safe distances. All road users shall respect the right of way of each other and the traffic rules to maintain driving safety
Also, after the amendment on Article 92 of the "Act Governing the Punishment of Violation of Road Traffic Regulations", unless otherwise specified, the driving rules and penalties applicable to large heavy-duty motorcycles will be the same as those for small vehicles. There are already changes to the right of way and norms such as no driving on motorcycle lanes, no waiting in motorcycle waiting areas, etc. The Department of Transportation urges users of large heavy-duty motorcycles to pay attention to the relevant laws and regulations and drive in accordance with the signs and markings.
