Next year, Taipei City Government will be hosting Velo-city Global 2016. This is the first time the event is hosted in Asia. As a prologue to this grand event, Taipei City Government is holding the “VELO TAIPEI Cycling Tour” at the Fine Arts Park Area of Taipei Expo Park on October 31, inviting the public to cycle together. Vacancies are limited, so hurry and register. Also, Taipei City Government and Taipei Business District & Industrial Confederation will launch together the “Velo-city Global 2016” friendly stores event, welcoming stores to be part of the friendly stores. The event aims to attract more than 500 stores to provide various discounts and promotions. As long as you ride cycles to these stores to make purchases from February 1 to March 31, 2016, you will be able to enjoy discounts and promotions.
Today (October 1), the organizers invite the public to join in the fun of Velo-City Global 2016. The press conference of VELO TAIPEI Cycling Tour cum Velo-city Global Friendly Stores is specially held at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi Plaza as a prologue to next year’s grand event. Taipei City Deputy Mayor, Chou Li-Fang, said in her speech, “The friendly stores activity by Taipei City Government and Taipei Business District & Industrial Confederation not only brings international tourism benefits, but also sets a good example of collaboration between government and the private sector. In the future, the government will continue to collaborate with the private sector in such international events, inviting participants from all walks of life. In addition, the public is welcome to cycle with the Mayor around Taipei on the day of the event, October 31”.
Registration of “VELO TAIPEI Cycling Tour” is open from now till October 9, limited to 2,000 participants. The routes of the event are categorized into Family Section, which is 19 km, and Riders Section, which is 70 km. A souvenir will be given upon registration, and a certificate and souvenir for completion will also be given upon completing the ride.
Chairman of Taipei Business District & Industrial Confederation, Chou Shuei-Mei, said that “This event involves 12 administrative districts and 59 shopping districts of Taipei City; at least 300 stores joined the friendly stores event”. In the future, besides local and foreigner participants from the industrial, government, academic and public sectors, as well as those who hold exhibitors card for Taipei International Cycle Show, bike lovers may also enjoy various kinds of promotions from those friendly stores when they cycle there from February 1 to March 31, 2016. The friendly stores are distributed in shopping areas all over Taipei City, and Taiwan’s two major bicycle companies, Giant and Merida will also join in as friendly stores. The list of friendly stores will be subsequently published in the official website of Velo-city Global 2016 for the public to make enquiries. Bike lovers are invited to visit Taipei during the event to enjoy the beauty of the City, and the cycling routes in the City that are filled with culture, delicacies, shopping and fun.
