Establishment of No-Standing Area on bus in Taipei expected to complete by June 2014
For safety reason, No-Standing Area was to be set up on bus near the door because passengers were likely to get hurt by bus door while the door was closing. Another No-Standing Area on bus was where around the front door because that would hinder the driver from looking at the mirror. Therefore, it was planned to complete the establishment of No-Standing Area, one closed to the front door and the other to the rear door, on bus by June 2014. Passengers should not stand within these areas for safety concern. According to the Taipei Public Transportation Office, for bus traveling safety, all Taipei City buses had been installed with safety facilities, including interior and exterior cameras, standardized length of ring-pulls, and some safety warning labels, on which there showed “Hold on tight hand rails (ring-pulls)”, “Do not hold on door revolving shaft”, and “Watch out approaching cars from behind”. As revealed by statistics, in 2013, a total of 35 cases got hurt due to crushing by closing door because they stood closed to the bus door. Furthermore, many bus drivers complained that passengers standing closed to the front door tended to hinder their vision at mirrors. In consideration of these problems, the Taipei Public Transportation Office invited bus companies for meetings in October 2013, and concluded to set up “No-Standing Area” near the front and rear bus door. The “No-Standing Area” was established according to different types of bus. There had been 3,190 buses (about 90%) completed with the set up. It was expected to complete by end of June, 2014.
In coordination with the newly implemented regulation, drivers would explain and speak to passengers not to stand within the “No-Standing Area” for the purpose of their own and others’ safety.
