Walking into an underground urban forest: Zhongxin Car Park
Zhongxin underground car park has been transformed. Taipei City Parking Management and Development Office, in working on the renovation of Zhongxin underground car park, took the opportunity to invite artists to use paintings to create an urban forest out of the car park, which is therefore infused with new life.
The Office says that Zhongxin car park was revamped based on the concept of an urban forest, using drawings of trees, interfaced with houses and people in our daily life, to portray the image of an urban forest. Entering the car park’s B1 from ground level is like entering a real verdant park, and going from B1 to B2 through the star tunnel is like entering a forest full of lush trees; every corner is full of changes and surprises. Neighboring Xinyi District’s MRT City Hall Station, with high-rise commercial buildings and department stores surrounding it, and the YouBike main station located in the park above, Zhongxin car park is always packed with people. Once you enter the underground car park, however, your mood will be transformed instantly to relaxation and serenity.
Since 2013, the Office has carried out the painting beautification of car parks, and has until now completed wall paintings at 5 car parks: Fuqian car park, Minyou Market car park, Binjiang Junior High School car park, Long Men Junior High School car park and Lihu Elementary School car park. Onsite service staff of the Office said that they have been receiving recognition and praise from car owners concerning these paintings.
The Office expresses that by the end of 2014, beautification works at Qixing Park underground car park, Chengde Park underground car park and Rongxing Garden underground car park are scheduled to be completed.
