Violation of marked sidewalk occupation will be reported by law
Taipei City Traffic Engineering Office noted today (30th) that the City’s marked sidewalks set up at roadsides in accordance with Sub-paragraph 3, Paragraph 1 of Article 3 of the “Statute Governing Road Traffic” which refers to “arcades and passages specifically for pedestrians to go through and ground roads set up specifically for pedestrians… ” should be deemed extensions of physical crosswalks.
The Office added that the City’s marked sidewalks have been set up by separating vehicle and pedestrian traffic spaces with the road sideline and the no-parking redline area, in which the graphic images of “Sidewalk” and “Pedestrian Only” have been clearly put on the sidewalks. As such, if drivers illegally occupy the sidewalks, the police agency may enforce the ban by law and report it for investigation. In the end, the Office still urges vehicle drivers not to occupy sidewalks, in order to ensure pedestrians’ traffic safety.
