Taipei City, New Taipei City and Keelung implement new taxi rates from October 1st; fares will be calculated based on a simplified comparison table
Taipei City Public Transportation Office (herein known as “PTO”) said a new taxi rate will be implemented in Taipei City, New Taipei City and Keelung from October 1, 2015, 00:00 hours. As the changing of taximeters could not be completed within a short period of time, a simple comparison table shall be used during the transition period. PTO has completed making the comparison table stickers for taxi drivers to paste on the back of the front passenger seat, to explain to the passengers and collect the new rate.
PTO said that the new rate comparison stickers have been issued to the Police Broadcasting Service, Taxi Drivers’ Association, taxi stations, taxi cooperatives, traffic police brigade, taxi fleets, Joint Service Center, etc. Taxi drivers may now collect the stickers from the abovementioned places, and paste them behind the front passenger seat to aid passengers in understanding the new rates and reduce instances of consumer disputes. Passengers are to pay the amount displayed on the meter with an additional amount according to the range specified in the comparison table. For example, if the meter shows the amount as NTD 90, based on the comparison table, there is no additional charge for the range between NTD 70 to NTD 95; if the meter shows NTD 130, an additional charge of NTD 5 is imposed for the range between NTD 100 to 145; for the range between NTD 1,000 to NTD 1,045, the additional charge is NTD 230. During night-time (23:00 hours to 06:00), an additional NTD 20 is imposed for every trip. As the comparison table only displays intervals of up to NTD 1,000 to NTD 1,045, the public will have to enquire through PTO’s website (http://www.pto.taipei.gov.tw/) or at PTO for charges above NTD 1,050.
Lastly, PTO said that drivers who have installed the new meters during the transition period should charge according to the meters, and not impose additional charges based on the comparison table. The new meter has a voice broadcast and receipt printing functions, and passengers may distinguish if it is a new meter through its exterior and voice. In the future, should passengers have any doubts regarding the fares, they may note down the license plate number, travel time and place, and report to PTO (hotline: 2759-2677). PTO also reminds taxi drivers to charge based on the rules and not overcharge passengers, or they will be fined NTD 9,000.
