From February 27th to March 1st of 2016, Taipei City Government will host the internationally renowned “Velo-city Global 2016.” This is the first time that Asia hosts the Velo-city Global. Vice Mayor Chou Li-fang and Counselor Lin Li-yu of Taipei City Government visited John Chen-Chung Deng, Minister of Economic Affairs on August 19th regarding joint cooperation in promoting this international event. The MOEA will also integrate related resources of its administrative agencies for the coming International Cycle Show in March, 2016, including the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Industrial Development Bureau, Department of Industrial Technology and R&D Office, to market domestic bicycle industry worldwide through this event.
Taipei City won the honor of hosting the Velo-city Global 2016, an event that has been held in many first-rate bike cities, including Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Vienna and Vancouver. Vice Mayor Chou Li-fang of Taipei City Government and Minister John Chen-Chung Deng of the MOEA met on Aug. 19th to jointly express that Taiwan is proud to hold this international event in Taipei City. Taipei City is a city with bicycle-friendly environment, comfortable riverside bikeways and convenient public bicycle system. Moreover, the bicycle industry and bicycle tourism in Taiwan are well known globally. That was the reason why Taipei City was elected the host city by the organizer of the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF). Minister John Chen-Chung Deng of the MOEA also pointed out that this is the best opportunity to market domestic industries. The MOEA will mobilize and integrate government agencies and industrial resources to assist Taipei City Government in organizing the event. Both parties reached an agreement for central and local governments to closely cooperate and integrate resources of industries, governments, academia, and non-government organizations to put the domestic bicycle industry into the international arena.
