Taipei City Reinforces Crackdown on Reverse Parking

Taipei City Parking Management and Development Office (hereafter referred to as PMD) has pointed out that it is difficult to find a parking space on certain streets/roads within the City due to the high demand for parking spaces. To grab a parking space, some car owners even resort to reverse parking, rather than clockwise parking. This kind of behavior violates Article 56 of the Statute Governing Road Traffic, and shall be subject to a fine of NT$900.
Reverse parking is likely to result in unprepared reaction from vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. This kind of violation is extremely dangerous. With reverse parking, since the driving will not be in the original direction when moving out of a parking space, any reverse turn will easily cause traffic congestion for the vehicles behind. Thus, starting from this day, PMD will reinforce its crackdown on reverse parking. Other than traffic assistants intensifying the crackdown on violations, parking administrators will also report any violation to the law enforcement unit immediately. The public may call the 1999 Citizen Hotline to report on violations. With joint effort, road safety and smooth traffic can be maintained.
