Implementation Hours for Zhongshan N. Rd. Fulin Bridge Reversible Lane changed to 18:00~19:30
The reversible lane (for 17:30~20:00) at Fulin Bridge of Taipei City’s Shilin District heading north out of downtown (towards Tianmu) has been implemented for many years. Given the fact that compared with the initial implementation period, the two-way traffic flow in this road section has significantly dropped and traffic peak hours have been shortened to between 18:00 and 19:30, the reversible lane implementation hours will be adjusted accordingly to the hours from 18:00 to 19:30.
According to Taipei City’s Traffic Engineering Office, two straight lanes and one exclusive left-turn lane heading north, as well as two straight lanes and one straight/left-turn lane bound for the south have been deployed as the traffic lanes for the Fulin Bridge section of Zhongshan N. Rd. (from Lane 698, Sec. 5, Zhongshan N. Rd. to Fuguo Rd.). In the early days, the northbound traffic flow (out of downtown) was enormous during the twilight peak hours between 17:30 and 20:00, which was significantly greater than the southbound traffic flow; hence, one northbound (out of downtown) reversible lane was implemented. With the adjustment, the traffic lanes in this road section came to include two straight lanes and two exclusive left-turn lanes heading north, as well as two southbound straight lanes.
Along with road system developments and regional developments in recent years, the heavy traffic flow of the particular road section has gradually been shifted to other roads, leading to substantial declines in the two-way traffic flow on Fulin Bridge. In order to enhance efficient road utilization and maintain smooth traffic flow, the reversible lane implementation hours will be shortened to 18:00 through 19:30 for the twilight peak period, which will be effective as of April 17, 2013. With the implementation, the southbound traffic capacity of the road section will be improved, which is expected produce a positive effect on alleviating the heavy traffic flow from Tianmu district toward downtown Taipei. Drivers should pay attention to light signals and instruction signs to ensure pedestrian and vehicle traffic safety, especially during the initial adjustment period.
