Department of Transportation Urges the Public to Follow Traffic Rules while Enjoying YouBike Riding

To strengthen its efforts in managing bike riding behaviors, as expressed by the Department of Transportation, Taipei City Government, and to ensure traffic safety for people riding bikes, any riding behaviors of YouBike members that violate traffic regulations will first be reminded via SMS messages. If necessary, membership rights will be suspended in accordance with the regulations for members. The Department urges users to follow traffic rules when riding the bikes in order to foster an excellent biking culture.

As expressed by the Department of Transportation, every YouBike has its own bike serial number on its basket front, mid-frame, and mudguards on the rear, through which the status of the bike and the member using the bike may be traced. Also, the terms of service for using YouBike clearly specify a standard for members to follow when riding YouBikes, as well as the etiquette to be exercised when riding bikes. Any violation will result in suspension of membership to use the YouBike. In the future, violations by members, once found true, will first receive a reminder via SMS messages. In serious cases, members will be forced to forego future use of these bikes.

The Department also reminds bike riders to follow the traffic rules, including: prohibition of riding on arcade corridors, dismounting and walking their bikes when passing by crowded areas, informing pedestrians nicely when passing by and passing them slowly from their left side, and thanking them afterwards, in order to foster a culture of friendliness and politeness.
