Once again cooperation between Taipei City and New Taipei City – Taipei eBus Website

Taipei City and New Taipei City form the greater Taipei metropolitan area that residents frequently travel between the two cities. To provide better accessibility of bus information in the two cities, the Taipei City Government and New Taipei City Government worked together to combine the bus information of two cities into one system, the “Taipei eBus” website, which was open today (November 25). Complete, consistent and up-to-date bus information of the greater Taipei metropolitan area became available on one search engine.
With the purpose to provide more convenient bus service, the Taipei City and New Taipei City established its own real-time bus information system in 2004, which provided estimated bus arrival time. There were by far up to in average 3.5 million users who accessed the systems in both cities every day. This showed that real-time bus information had become an essential part of bus service.
Both cities had collaborated to provide real-time bus information since 2012 that people could access to bus arrival time from bus smart stops in both cities, and by dialing the toll-free information phone line. However, as the bus information systems for Taipei City and New Taipei City were established separately, information inconsistency occurred between the two systems, which might cause inconvenience. The bus transfer routes of both cities were not integrated so passengers were unable to obtain a complete bus route map.
Consequently, both cities worked together to provide integrated real-time bus information service. Directed by the Taipei Public Transportation Office and assisted by the governments of the two cities, a more convenient, up-to-date, consistent, stable and integrated real-time bus information system was established. This system was built on Cloud service frame, providing a single search engine to cope with the demanding and fast growing bus information users. Upon the integration, improvements were also made on relevant services such as bilingual Chinese and English search engine. Furthermore, MRT transportation information and bus information of both cities were integrated, in order to give more appropriate suggestions about public transportation transfer to users.
The “Taipei eBus” website was put online today (November 25) for the public to try out (website address: ebus.gov.taipei or ebus.ntpc.gov.tw). During the trial period, the Taipei Public Transportation Office would collect public feedback for future review. Existing real-time bus information system websites of the two cities were still available. For any comments or suggestions, please leave a message on the “Comment and Feedback” section of the “Taipei eBus” website.
