New taxi meter implemented in Taipei City on October 1. During the transitional period, please refer to simple fare table for new fares.
According to the Taipei Public Transportation Office, the new taxi fare in Taipei City, New Taipei City and Keelung City had been implemented at midnight on October 1, 2015. As some taxies had not yet had the new fare meter installed, the governments of three cities after negotiated with taxi driver organization and taxi business organization had decided to use a simple fare table as well for reference during the transitional period changing from old to new fare meter. This measure could protect drivers’ interests and rights, and avoid complaints.
As the supply of new taxi fare meter was in shortage, and some of its functions remained to clarify, use of the fare table during the transitional period along with the new fare meter could protect taxi drivers’ interests and rights, and avoid confusion about fares. For taxies, which had not yet had the new meter installed, taxi drivers could charge based on the old meter, and charge additional fare according to the fare table. Taxi drivers whose taxies had the new meter installed should only charge fare based on the meter.
A simplified contrast table was used for reference. Passengers simply checked the price shown on the old fare meter, and find the fare that they should pay from the table. If the price shown on the meter was less than NT$95, no additional fare would be charged. If the price fell in between NT$100~145, the additional fare charged was NT$5. For the price ranges of NT$150~195 and NT$200~245, passengers would be charged with additional fare of NT$20 and NT$30 respectively. The Taipei Public Transportation Office would produce a separate contrast table for different taxi fares charged in the daytime and nighttime, and post it to taxi drivers. With these tables, taxi drivers could explain clearly how taxi fare was charged to passengers.
The Taipei Public Transportation Office finally stressed that it was easy to distinguish between old and new fare meters. The new fare meters had the function to print out receipts. Passengers could judge the required taxi fare from receipts. For any questions, please keep in mind the taxi plate number, time of traveling with and location to make a complaint to the Office (phone line: 2759-2677). The Office urged all taxi drivers to charge fare in accordance with relevant regulations during the transitional period. Overcharge when confirmed shall be subject to find and punishment in accordance with the regulations stipulated in the High Way Traffic Act.
