All Roadside Parking Spaces in Taipei City will be Included in Paid Services by the End of This Year
To apply the principle of fairness, that users should pay for what they use, and to solve the issue of free parking spots from being occupied for too long, Taipei City Parking Management and Development Office (PMA) will have all existing free roadside parking spots included in paid services by the end of this year to achieve orderly parking. According to the PMA, the currently available Metro network, fully accessible bus routes and YouBike services have provided a comfortable and well-organized public transportation system. To encourage citizens to use public transportation and properly reflect the cost of private transportation, all roadside parking spots are planned to be included in paid services. The priority of paid spots will be based on citizens’ advice through channels such as 1999 Citizen Hotline or City Affairs Mailbox. For other roads, to allow citizens more time to adjust and adapt to the new policy, all free roadside parking spaces along the “streets and roads” will be included in paid services by the end of September, while all those along the “alleys and lanes” will be charged by the end of December. Meanwhile, a special section titled “2015 Plan for Charges of Roadside Parking in Taipei City” has been added to the PMA’s website (http://www.pma.gov.taipei)(Chinese) to give citizens easy access to information, including SOPs, Q&A and the progress for roads included in paid services. The PMA also suggests that citizens should establish a concept of getting their own parking space when buying a car, and not treat roadside parking spots as your own garage. A pedestrian-oriented transportation system will be formed as more roadside spaces are released for pedestrians and unobstructed access during an emergency. -------
No bicycle riding in arcades.
Polite cycling manner: say “Excuse me!” before passing pedestrians and “Thank you!” when slowly passing by on the left side.
