Taipei taxi fare comparison table voided on August 1, 2016
According to the Taipei Public Transportation Office, as more than 95% of taxies in Taipei have been installed with the new fare meter, and the installation on the rest of taxies is under progress. In May, the Office held a meeting with competent authorities of New Taipei City and Keelung City as well as taxi drivers’ organization. Decision was made at the meeting to void the taxi fare comparison table, taking effect at 12 am on August 1, 2016 (Monday). All taxies shall charge fares as shown on the meter to avoid consumer dispute.
For any doubts about taxi fares charged, please report with taxi plate number, traveling time and location on Taipei citizen hotline 1999. The office would like to remind taxi drivers to charge fares according to the fare meter after the fare comparison table becomes void even if the new fare meter has not yet been installed. No extra fares shall be charged or will be subject to fines and punishment in accordance with regulations stipulated in the Highway Act. Taxi drivers are strongly recommended to install with new fare meters as soon as possible.
