Concerning the suggestion of Taipei City Councilors that the traffic signal control boxes in Taipei City should be incorporated into the City’s landscape or painted with the themes promoting public policies, the Taipei City Traffic Engineering Office will implement the beautification of the control boxes by pictures and text, to promote Taipei City public relations topics introduced by the Department of Information and Tourism and the traffic safety of the Department of Transportation, in reference to the examples of Taiwan Power, Chunghwa Telecom, Taipei Water, etc.
From 2009 to 2011, the Traffic Engineering Office implemented the beautification of control boxes at 371 intersections in the City by covering the control boxes with photos of the City views or policy announcements. Yet at certain intersections, these control boxes were vandalized by graffiti and had to be entirely redecorated. The control box beautification hence was suspended since 2012. Nevertheless, in light of the public suggestion, the Traffic Engineering Office will reinitiate the beautification of control boxes by referring to the examples of Taiwan Power, Chunghwa Telecom, Taipei Water, etc., decorating the control boxes with topics promoting the Taipei City public relations launched by the Department of Information and Tourism, the designs of policy announcements on traffic safety form the Department of Transportation, as well as other designs of appropriate City activities or local publicity campaigns.
