Bus fare structural adjustment mechanism scheduled to begin in early 2017.
In response to the media report that the Taipei city bus fare system will be changed from the current system to distance based one in early next year, the Taipei Public Transportation Office commented that the bus fare structural adjustment mechanism was still under investigation. A proposal will be drawn up before March next year, followed by discussion at review meetings before submitted to the city council for final consideration. It was expected to implement the aforementioned mechanism in early 2017.
The Office had authorized a party to conduct the “Taipei City Bus Fare Adjustment Research” project in this July on the current fare system, and public opinions were taken into account. This research evaluated the fare structure, discount mechanism (including transfer between buses) and modifications on ticket scanning machines etc, and provided feasible suggestions. A proposal about fare adjustment will be drawn up by March 2016. Before this measure could be implemented, there will be a lot of work to do such as negotiation on discount mechanism, update of ticket scanning facility, and communication and advertisement etc. The earliest possible time to have it implemented will be early 2017.
