Intended to promote tourist and recreational development of Taipei City and strengthen marketing of tourist spots, the Taipei Public Transportation Office had integrated taxi resources and launched taxi tourist service to attract more domestic and international tourists to have city tours by taxi. This service was carried out by taxi drivers who were familiar with all famous tourist scenic spots of Taipei such as Yangmingshan, Beitou and the National Palace Museum.
According to the Taipei Public Transportation Office, taxi is one of convenient transportation for taking a city tour. Taxi drivers could be good tour guides. Among new Taipei City Mayor’s politic measures, one was to encourage more diverse taxi service with higher additional value as that would help increase taxi drivers’ income. Thus, the Office had integrated all taxi resources and established a marketing and promotional website. The Office had negotiated with taxi companies to agree upon fares (NT$2,400 per taxi for tour within four hours; NT$500 per hour after the 4th hour; actual fare may vary depending on different tours). Domestic and international tourists are encouraged to take Taipei city tours by taxi. The standard taxi fare ensures the interests and rights of tourists.
Providers of the taxi city tour service included a total of 70 taxi drivers from the Taiwan Taxi, MTaxi and Crown Taxi. The Taipei Public Transportation Office held relevant training courses for those drivers whose personal information was also disclosed. If any of them do not provide satisfactory service or charge fares inappropriately, passengers could make complains to corresponding taxi company or the Office. The taxi drivers will be fined and excluded from the list of taxi city tour providers. There are three taxi city tours including cultural tour, recreational tour (Beitou hot spring spa) and scenic tour (Yangmingshan).
