Left-turn to Tonghe Street from Section 4 of Zhongshan North Road open to motorcycles and bicycles since August 30, 2016
In order to relieve the westbound traffic congestion from Section 4 of Zhongshan North Road to Tonghe Street, Taipei City Traffic Engineering Office (hereafter referred to as TEO) has adjusted the timing of traffic signals and the arrangement of lanes to prepare for left-turn signals to begin operation at 10 am on August 30, 2016 (Tuesday). Motorcyclists will be able to follow left-turn traffic signs and on-site directions to turn left onto Tonghe Street. The TEO has been taking measures to improve traffic flow at the intersection of Section 4 of Zhongshan North Road and Tonghe Street. Previously, westbound motorcycles and bicycles traveling from the south were required to wait at the waiting zone. However, due to the large number of motorcycles, the waiting zone was inadequate, even after being augmented by reducing the size of the sidewalk. Therefore, the curb lane of Section 4 of Zhongshan North Road (from Yuanshan Tunnel to Tonghe Street entrance) has been converted to a left-turn lane while left-turn signals for motorcycles and bicycles have been added. The left-turn signals will be implemented starting 10 am, August 30, 2016 in the hope of promoting traffic efficiency and easing the left-turn traffic flow.
