DOT Holds Press Conference for 5284 Competition

As a part of the 2010 Car Free Day events, Taipei City Department of Transportation (DOT) held a press conference for the 5284 tournament on August 24. Transportation Commissioner Lo Shiaw-shyan kicked off the competition and encouraged the members of the five participating teams to do their best.
Lo noted that the 5284 (“I love bus”) system is the best Car Free Day present for the residents of Taipei City. The platform offers users quick access to the schedule, exact location, and estimated arrival time of the city’s public buses. Through 5284, users will be able to plan their travel route if required. Hopefully, through the tournament, the public will have a chance to learn more about the system and incorporate it into their daily life.
A total of five teams will be taking part in the 5284 tournament. In addition to using the 5284 system for the races, the teams will be captured on film during the tournament and made into a television program which will be aired on Hi Channel. The public can go online to watch the show and cast their vote for their favorite teams.
The organizers invited the well-known “three princesses” from National Chengchi University to serve as leaders of the participating teams. The celebrity students remarked that they want to support the concept of green transportation and help reduce carbon emission by taking public transportation and walking.
