Scooter parking spaces expansion after shortening 5 meter of prohibited parking at road intersections

According to the 90-3 regulation of Punishment of Violation of Road Traffic Regulations, within the 10 meters of road intersections, the responsible city road authorities have the right to install scooter or slow mode vehicles parking space with the assumption that there is no safety concern when necessary. Hence, since the low scooter height does not affect drivers’ sight line in driving, the Department of Transportation (DOT), Taipei City Government will consider shortening the original 10 meters parking-forbidden zones to 5 meters, so a road intersection can release about 40 scooter parking spaces.
DOT has started to execute “village’s traffic enhancement project” since August, 2015. The goals to achieve includes (1) establishing a safe pedestrian walking space, (2) maintaining effective fire protection areas, (3) reviewing the reasonable parking space and limiting parking violation issues, and (4) ultimately achieving a barrier-free environment. Up until now, there are about 30 villages which have completed the project with a total of 905 scooter spaces placed. As for the 5 meters prohibited parking shortening at road intersections, there are a total of 23 places which have finished the implement in Zhongzheng District’s Xinying village, Xinyi District’s Xinren village, Songshan District’ Fushi, Songji, and Minyou villages, Daan District’s Dunan, and Jianan villages. It is expected to release more than 2000 scooter parking spaces after the project implement in 60 to 100 villages.
