"Bus Not Stop for Road Traffic Control”, new bus information made available at each bus station, the first initiative nationwide
New bus arrival information about bus not stop for road traffic control will be provided, announced by the Taipei Public Transportation Office today (December 12). Being the first initiative nationwide, the information is accessible on the Internet or intelligent bus stop, or by using mobile phone or dialing bus information hotline. You will find out at what bus stops buses will “not stop due to road traffic control” as well as any changes of bus routes so you won’t wait for buses at the bus stops that have been announced to be suspended temporarily.
The average number of users accessing to the Taipei City Real-Time Bus Information System is about 1.8 million per day. There are a total of 684 intelligent bus stops throughout the city providing the real-time bus information. Considering that it has become one of the most important bus transportation services for the public, the office has been working on refinement of the system contents for more convenience of passengers while taking a bus. In Taipei City, any changes of bus routes or temporary suspension of bus stops due to road traffic control are announced by posting on bus stops, on the website of the Taipei Public Transportation Office as well as on the real-time bus information 5284 website. The information shown on bus stops and the websites allow the public to know the time period of road traffic control, new bus routes and bus stops that will be temporarily out of use. The real-time bus information system was designed without taking into account road traffic control or other factors resulting in changes of bus routes so when users are looking up bus arrival information, for bus stops that are out of use during road traffic control, the system will still show the estimated bus arrival time. If users are not aware of the announcement of road traffic control, they are very likely to wait for buses at temporarily suspended bus stops.
The Taipei Public Transportation Office has reviewed and upgraded the Taipei City Real-Time Bus Information System by adding a new function. The upgraded system will show the area under road traffic control, and bus stops in this area will be shown with “Bus Not Stop for Road Traffic Control”. If buses do not stop at some bus stops outside this area due to change of bus routes, the system will also show these bus stops with the information, “Bus Note Stop for Road Traffic Control”. Therefore, passengers will clearly be aware of suspended bus stops, at which buses will not stop. This new function avoids the problem that passengers may wait for buses at suspended bus stops. Such new information will be forwarded to private sectors, which develop relevant APP software in access to the most up-to-date bus information.
Few days before road traffic control, intelligent bus stops in the controlled area will display in a full page about the information as well as the message, “Bus Not Stop for Road Traffic Control”. The public will be aware of the information about change of bus routes beforehand. The Taipei Public Transportation Office will continue the review of the Taipei City Real-Time Bus Information System based on public opinions and demands, and make upgrade if necessary. The office is working to provide more convenient and better service.
