The “Fun Travel in Taipei” App (hereafter referred to as “FTiT”) now includes newly added information on tourist attractions, in the form of a collection of 101 Taipei sightseeing hotspots carefully selected by celebrities, experts from various fields and foreign friends who were invited by the Department of Information and Tourism, as well as 24 attractions listed under City management. Chao Hsin-ping, Commissioner of the Department of Information and Tourism, says that TaipeiTravel.Net currently has information on 212 sightseeing attractions, 559 gourmet restaurants and 397 hotels. The currently available information is only the first phase; more information will be provided in FTiT. The high download volume of FTiT will be used to promote tourism in Taipei and attract more tourists to explore the City in depth.

Commissioner Chao mentioned that riding a Youbike through the streets of Taipei, visiting attractions and exploring the cultural aspects of the alleys and lanes is a very unique Taipei Style traveling experience. You can plan your very own mini-tour by using FTiT; everyone can enjoy a unique Taipei experience. In addition, attraction search and Youbike tour route planning functions will be further added to FTiT, to allow the public to make convenient use the Youbikes to travel leisurely between various tourist attractions.

FTiT is the first smartphone software application developed by the Department of Transportation, aimed at being the software in Taiwan with the most comprehensive traffic information provided by a national government agency. The app has received many accolades after being launched online, such as the 2012 ITS Taiwan Intelligent Transportation Application Award and the 2012 Outstanding Public Transportation Planning Award from the Chinese Institute of Transportation. Since the app was launched online on April 25, 2011, the number of cumulative downloads have already exceeded 400,000 times as of March 2013, ranking it No.1 in the number of downloads among all Taipei City Government Apps. In addition, from 2012 to March 2013, the average number of queries per month was approximately 7 million times, and the highest number of queries in a single month exceeded 14 million, demonstrating that FTiT has become an important channel for the public to access traffic information. City residents can also utilize Youbikes at any time for the last leg of their journey using public transportation, enhancing the usage of green transportation through the bikeway network provided by the “Fun Travel in Taipei” App.
