Taipei City special transportation minibuses open to non-local residents on January 1, 2012

As stipulated in Article 58-1 of the Physically and Mentally Disabled Citizens Protection Act, “competent authorities of municipalities and counties (cities) shall not restrict non-local residents from accessing special transportation minibuses on January 1, 2012”. Taipei City has in compliance with the regulation revised the “Notice of air-conditioned minibuses for physically disabled people in Taipei City”, and allowed disabled people on wheelchairs from outside the Taipei City to access the special transportation service. Residents of other cities and counties who hold a booklet for physically and mentally disabled people, or are a vegetable, or have severe disabilities of upper and lower limbs can make a reservation 3 days in advance (departure is in Taipei City). The service scope (Taipei City Bus service zones), fare (1/3 of Taipei City taxi’s fare), and schedule and other regulations are the same as those applied to Taipei City residents.
According to the Taipei Public Transportation Office, to help people with limb disabilities travel, currently there are 185 special transportation minibuses on duty in Taipei City (there will be 189 minibuses on January 1, 2012). These minibuses can provide 40,660 runs of the transportation service each month in average, serving 76,130 passengers. The Office will increase both quantity and quality of the service, and closely pay attention to service reservation and passenger’s feedback so as to revise and make appropriate changes.
As reminded by the Division of Public Transportation of the Office, people from outside the Taipei City while making the first reservation should provide personal basic information including passenger’s name, number of the booklet for physically and mentally disabled people, contact telephone number, and fax the cover page and reverse page of the booklet to the office for the service company to make a passenger’s file. Reservation can be made from 8:30am to 12:30pm and from 1:30pm to 5:00pm by dialing 2796-5611 (Taiwan Car Rental, Taiwan Tourist Bus), and 2911-2336 (Eden Social Welfare Foundation).
