To commemorate 2010 Car Free Day, Taipei City Department of Transportation (DOT) has organized a series of activities during the months of August and September to encourage public participation.
This year, the agency has invited well-known environmentalist and musician Matthew Lien to serve as the spokesperson for this year’s Car Free Day activities. He will also be composing a new work specifically for the occasion and joining Transportation Commissioner in a promotional clip for the event.
Since 2001, Taipei City Government has organized Car Free Day events by holding bicycle rides and street fairs. However, this year the city government will be focusing on activities that will encourage the public to implement the concept of “car free” into their daily living by holding activities to promote public transportation.
Special Events:
EasyCard Raffle (August 16 – September 18):
Between August 16 and September 18, any individual who use their EasyCard 10 times or more will be eligible to enter the raffle.
Happy Taipei Bus Drivers (August 16 – September 18):
DOT is looking for short stories and recommendation pieces for city bus drivers who are unique, funny, or courteous. Post your recommendation or a story about your encounter with the bus driver at the activity website for a chance to win great prizes!
Car Free Once-a-week! Car Free Card Giveaway (August 16 – September 30):
Make your pledge to forgo a day of driving each week and you will receive a Car Free Card! With this card, you will be eligible to receive discounts or other bonuses at stores with the “car free recognition” logo. The card is available at MRT stations, major bus terminals, parking lots; discount coupons can also be downloaded from the activity website.

5284 Tournament

DOT welcomes teams to sign up and participate in treasure hunt activities throughout Taipei City by using the public transportation with the help of the 5284 (“I love bus”) website. Refer to the Car Free Day website for more details on the tournament.
Car Free Summer Day Party (September 18):
DOT will be organizing the Car Free Summer Day Party at Taipei Water Park between 2 PM and 7 PM on September 18. Visitors will experience a fun-packed carnival, complete with family-fun games and performances. The finals of the 5284 Tournament will also take place at the Car Free Summer Day Party.
