According to the Taipei Public Transportation Office, both the Taipei City Hall Transfer Post and Nangang Transfer Post are necessary to meet the transportation demand of residents in the East District of Taipei. The Taipei Public Transportation Office has neither planned to replace the Taipei City Hall Transfer Post with the Nangang Transfer Post nor moving the current highway routes to the Nangang Transfer Post. The Taipei City Hall transfer post located in the Xinyi Planning Zone (shopping area) connects with the Taipei City Hall Station of the Taipei Metro Ban-Nan Line (Taipei Rapid Transit System). It mainly provides commute routes between Taipei to Keelung and Yilan as well as short-distance commute routes. The Nangang transfer post is located at the North Station of the Taiwan High Speed Rail adjacent to the Nangang Railway Station. It also connects to the Nangang Station of the Taipei Metro Ban-Nan Line. It is closed to highways No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5. The complete highway network can meet people’s need of middle and long-distance transportation who live in the East District of Taipei metropolitan area (including Xizhi of New Taipei City, Keelung and the north east Taiwan). These two transfer posts provide different transportation services and will together serve residents in the East District of the Taipei metropolitan area.
The Taipei Public Transportation Office further commented that since the opening of the Taipei City Hall Transfer Post on August 5, 2010, more than 10,000,000 passengers have visited the transfer post by October 3 this year. Originally, it was predicted that there would be about 10,000 passenger per day, but now the number of passengers per day has reached 23,000 with the maximum number of 36,000 passengers per day. The operation of the transfer post has significantly improved local traffic, suggesting that people are getting used to use public transportation and the transfer post. The importance of the transfer post is irreplaceable. The Nangang Transfer Post is still under planning, and a complete planning will be started after obtaining the land in 2014.
