It has been the 4th year since the promotion, “Passing down love for a hundred years”, was launched by the Jingjuan Children’s Safety Foundation, Taipei Bus Management Committee and Taipei Public Transportation Office. In September 2011, a series of activities was held that the number of visitors to the promotion’s Facebook fan page has reached 24,455. More than 1,800 people have participated in other activities such as the “Share your love” and “Passenger’s roll call”, Facebook and mobile phone message. These activities encouraged passengers to thank drivers that will not only cheer up drivers but also encourage them to dedicate to their job and provide better service.
While running these activities, many people provided us their feedback about good drivers who help the elderly get off the bus, help carry heavy goods, help disabled people get on low floor bus, remind passengers to give priority seats, announce name of every bus stop to passengers, greet passengers, lend an umbrella to people and return passenger’s belongings left in the bus. Some drivers even announce name of every bus stop and introduce famous tourist spots and restaurants nearby in Mandarin, Taiwanese, English, Japanese and Hakka. They also warn passengers while going on bumping roads and making a turn.
To educate children about bus taking safety and showing a good manner to drivers, the “On-Campus Safety and Manner Promotion” was held 100 times. The promotion worked with traffic safety courses at elementary schools to introduce various functions and service of a low-floor bus, and educate children bus taking safety and manner. The activity has won positive feedback from teachers and students.
The Bus Manner and Care Move urged passengers and drivers to act in a good manner while getting on or driving a bus. It intended to promote the idea to pay attention to the elderly and disadvantaged people, and give way to others while driving. It has received warmly and positive feedback. A press conference for awarding prizes to 60 polite bus drivers and 40 safe driving bus drivers was held at 14:00 today (November 27) at the B1 International Conference Hall of the Department of Rapid Transit Systems of Taipei City Government (No. 7, Lane 48, Section 2, Zhongshan North Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei City). These drivers received certificates of award and prizes from Mr. Lin, Director of the Department of Transportation of Taipei City Government.
According to the Taipei Public Transportation Office, there were a total of 685 cases about good bus driver and service in 2010. This number was higher than 364 and 582 cases in 2008 and 2009 respectively. In 2011, a total of 601 such cases were reported from January to October which was 41 more than 560 cases reported in the same period of 2010. The statistics suggest that the Bus Manner and Care Move was a good success in improving the services and attitudes of Taipei City bus drivers.
Finally, the “Share your love” activity is about to go to the end. People can leave your words to thank bus drivers by Facebook, cell phone message or the service telephone of the Taipei Public Transportation Office, to be eligible to prize drawing; prizes include a Tablet PC. Don’t miss the opportunity.
