Background

To make Taipei City a more livable and sustainable city, the emphasis of the city government focuses on providing a humanistic and sustainable traffic environment, in which the promotion of green transportation utilization rate becomes an important development objective. It hopes to create a sound public transportation network through utilizing the MRT network as the backbone and supported by the extensive transport of city buses, along with alternative means such as walking and/or biking.

With both the MRT and city bus network gradually taking shape, nevertheless, there are still many places and/or stations where it may be too far for most citizens to walk from/to home, but too close to driving. The city government believes that the public bike rental system as a possible solution, where citizens can utilize public bikes for daily commutes or recreation, thus covering the “last mile” between home and public transit stations.
